The self-described freedom fighter most recently fought alongside Syrian rebels and pledges to fight with Palestinian forces. ‘The only good Zionist is a dead Zionist,’ Harroun says.

Will he be Obama’s Next Drone Target?

Eric Harroun, 30, has gone country to country around the Middle East fighting for political change, recently linked to a group connected to al-Qaeda in Iraq.

A self-proclaimed freedom fighter known as “the American” has hopped around the Middle East picking sides in Arab Spring conflicts, most recently in Syria, where he fought with rebel groups against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Eric Harroun, a 30-year-old U.S. Army veteran, is also anti-Israel and has pledged to fight with Palestinian forces.

“The only good Zionist is a dead Zionist,” Harroun, a Phoenix native, wrote on his Facebook page.

Harroun, who has become a prominent presence on anti-Israel message boards, converted to Islam after leaving the Army and has reportedly embraced Islamic fanaticism.

His erratic alliances go deeper than that: Harroun was recently linked to a group the United States says is associated with al- Qaeda in Iraq.

“I was separated in a battle, and most of my group was K.I.A. And Al-Nusra picked me up,” Harroun told FoxNews.com, adding, “Getting into Al-Nusra is not rocket science. It just takes balls and brains.”

A video posted online during Harroun’s time in Syria shows him and Syrian rebels celebrating the takedown of a Syrian helicopter. He posted a photo on Facebook of the dead pilot’s paycheck with a caption saying, “He will NOT cash this one!!!”

Harroun started his fight against former President Hosni Mubarak’s forces in Egypt.

Harroun started in Egypt during the Arab Spring’s beginnings, protesting against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Fox News reported. He was later associated with the Free Syrian Army. He now reportedly is in Turkey.

“I hate bad guys like Bashar (al-Assad),” Harroun said. “I hate Iran, too. I am a freedom fighter.”

A car crash that left Harroun with a steel plate in his head led to his discharge after he served almost three years in the Army.

Harroun grew up in Phoenix before serving almost three years in the U.S. Army. His father, Darryl Harroun, told Fox News his son was discharged after a car crash that left him with a steel plate in his head. After leaving the Army, Harroun eventually began to identify as a Muslim and embraced “Islamic fanaticism,” Fox reports.

“He just loves that part of the world,” Darryl Harroun said. “We scratch our heads and wonder what the hell he’s doing. I told him, ‘You’re never going to change those people’s minds over there.’ But he says they treat him like a hero.

“I know one day I’m going to get a message from over there telling me my son is dead.”
