On June 24, 1994 Lt. Col. Holland was practicing maneuvers for an air show. While executing a “go-around” at 250 feet altitude, the plane stalled and fell out of the air. I remember what ran through my thoughts the first time I saw the crash video now available on the Internet. A B52 just could not do what the pilot tried to do.”
“This page explains why he thought that plane could perform the “Unapproved Maneuver.”
This page is not about the failure of command. I have no interest in why Lt, Col. Arthur Holland was in command of the aircraft. The decisions he made that day and on several previous occasions leads me to believe he had suffered a subtle change in mental state.
He believed the plane could do things that were physically impossible.
If you want to understand the power of Subliminal Distraction remember the paranoid psychotic rant of Seng-Hui Cho.
The Virginia Tech shooter had created the “special circumstances” for Subliminal Distraction exposure.

Outcome of the unapproved maneuver.
The maneuver was a 65 degree banked turn at 250 feet altitude.
The B52 does not have ailerons to allow a recovery from a bank exceeding 45 degrees.
